A Great Divide

Between us there’s a great divide

Time and distance cannot conquer

‘Twas told obey and then abide

Too late to say you’re sorry, yonder

With pain and torment, can’t forget

One lies in darkness and reminded

Decisions founded on regret

That pride is evil, often blinded

One often mourns, what one can’t see

The wretched turns that come and go

No recompense despite the pleas

One life is given, one life to show

The line is drawn, which side you’re on

The simple measure of your worth

The end awaits and then belongs

The just reward, the sobering truth

The great divide which separates us

From endless suffering and holy bliss

Which life you lead defines the trust

In God or in the set abyss

Free will ensnares, the choice is ours

But One, all guilty, all are shamed

The countdown to the final hours

No one stand with, no one to blame

Before a holy God, we stand

To justify the paths we’ve taken

The law defiled, justice commands

Eternal punishment, the token

But Who would speak before the throne

Who bore our sins, His righteousness

Who longs to be with us at home

Relationship dawns blessedness

The universe will pass away

And all creation turn to dust

The word of God will never sway

He wants our love, He wants our trust

The answer lies in whom you choose

On pride you stand or Jesus Christ

Would you risk your soul to lose

Or faith in Him who sacrificed
