Daniele Paolo De Girolami was born in Costa Rica to two Italian parents fleeing their homeland of Italy after WWII. Shortly thereafter, they came to the United States to raise their family in the spirit of opportunity and security that their new home afforded them.

Growing up, De Girolami straddled the line between worlds; the history, culture and language of his parent’s homeland, the young and spirited energy of mid-20th century America. His upbringing instilled discipline, intellect and curiosity, never losing his more wild and eccentric nature.

Following in the footsteps of a vast lineage of doctors, De Girolami chose Cardiology as his chosen profession, settling in Chicago to begin his career and raise his two daughters.

But though his life seemed complete - a healthy family, a lavish home, money, food, travel - there was a profound element missing in his life, causing De Girolami to seek fulfillment in more damaging places. It wouldn’t be until years later that his life would begin to change.

His first awakening came in the realization of his connection to his now wife, Sonja, a peer for many years who became his cherished and beloved life-long partner and confidant; her son becoming De Girolami’s as well.

The second awakening occurred on a day in June 2011 when a long-time patient made a remark that prompted De Girolami to see God for the first time; what he refers to as a “happening.” After years of living as an Atheist, this was De Girolami’s first encounter with the Divine.

Thus began both an intellectual and emotional exploration of his newfound relationship with Jesus Christ, leading him first to become a member and elder of the River Valley Christian Fellowship in Bourbonnais and later furthering his studies by pursuing his master’s degree in Christian Apologetics through Biola University in California where he will be graduating later this year.

No stranger to artistic expression - De Girolami is a skilled pianist and avid composer - it nevertheless came as a shock when a seemingly endless wave of poetry began to pour through him onto the page. He believes himself to be a mere vessel for God’s words; as De Girolami puts it, they are His words, and His alone. Still, De Girolami has found great joy in his newfound avocation. He hopes you will enjoy the poems that have brought him so much fulfillment and inspiration.
