The Dreamer

Across the path of righteousness

A house dived cannot stand

Indifference breeds the consequence

For hatred in the land

What have we done, what have we not

The flag for privileged few

Complacency will never get

Real action from the pew

How many more, how long, O Lord

The hundreds have gone past

In waiting years with fear, unrest

The search for peace, at last

We are your people, image made

No different, bleed the same

Please stop the madness and the hate

Please stop the jeers, the names

It’s not our fault, we came enslaved

In ships claimed, from the Lord

Were treated less than animals

Lost souls were placed aboard

And off we went to promised land

With shackles and our scars

If dared to fight, lost dignity

The right to live was barred

Then through the years, they came and went

The rich and white prevailed

The Constitution granted rights

We knew that ship had sailed

From bad to worse, the violence claimed

Our brothers, moms, and dads

Please not forget our sisters too

‘Twas rape, was all they had

A voice then came, crying in the night

He came in peace, assailed

He marched along to do what’s right

His letters, pleas, from jail

The dreamer dared to speak again

The world, for all to see

Countless came to hear his voice

‘Bout character, he decreed

But then, the message, to suggest

We’re equal in God’s sight

It brought disgust and further hate

Just get him out of sight

The angel killed, the shot was heard

Was silenced as he fell

The hope to change what couldn’t change

Brought tyranny and hell

Erected statue, on the mall

A national holiday

So,nothing changed, went back to sleep

The country and its ways

And 57 plus years later

The George Floyd’s still remain

Despite the lies, the country’s ripped

Brutality, still aflame

Movements come and movements go

The government never cared

The talk from pulpits dimmed and gone

Lord’s love was never shared

And pray we must, to battle on

For God, all people mattered

But now, it black lives, focus please

Their lives are torn and shattered

Hardened not your heart, you see

Please listen to their voice

We all must live in equity

We all must have a choice

It’s not about the battle lines

Not who is right or wrong

Gods’ people need their due respect

We all are dear, belong
