To the Person in the Pew

Rivalry, chicanery, deceit imbued in truth

Narcissistic tendencies, vanity in youth

Paralleling attitudes, the righteous will agree

Salvation to the chosen few, the sinner’s prayer, you’re free

Broad path to destruction is the warning from above

Hatred with a street sign, instead of giving love

Prayers are given freely, yet to whom are they thus given

It’s not about relationship, as much about religion

To whom then do you trust in, your earthly, godly works

And off to church on Sunday’s, to worship in your turf

Then hurried in the parking lot, the musings and the rage

The pastor with his sermon, he thinks himself a sage

It’s Sunday, got to get home, grill hot dogs and a drink

This boring job on Monday’s, your nerves are on the brink

You settle into yesteryear, pretend it’s all a game

Tradition taught and family, you lie, you cheat, complain

The spouse is gone, pornography, who cares, it’s not for real

You settle in your manly cave to rest and cop a feel

Whilst madam and her earthy friends are choking on some gossip

The cross is hanging ‘round her neck, it makes you want to vomit

And to distinguish from the crowd, they’re pagan or they’re Christian

It doesn’t matter if you try cuz Satan’s got dominion

They’re all so good, they’re all so proud, it’s heaven that can wait

They do believe in Jesus, how, not what you do but say

But wait, you say, you’re not the judge, it’s God who makes the stand

One question, are you Christian, or just another fan

Because the way you carry on, not something He would do

And one more thing, you haven’t read, He said there’s only few

Who enter by the narrow gate, the path that leads to heaven

Not what about you did or got, or gifts that you’ve been given

Relationship, that leads to life, His death upon the cross

Was needed to repay your sin, He saved you from your loss
